Angela N. Buckner, Esq., currently serves as the Chief of the General Crimes Section at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, supervising the Misdemeanor, Felony Trial, Case Initiation, and Grand Jury Units.
Before her current role, Ms. Buckner was a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section, where she prosecuted complex transnational human smuggling offenses, human rights violations, and international violent crime, including sexual assault and homicide. Ms. Buckner previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, prosecuting offenses ranging from misdemeanor assaults and felony gun possession to federal child exploitation and trafficking. She is a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve, and her past assignments have included defense counsel, senior legal advisor, and ethics counsel. Earlier in her career, Ms. Buckner worked as a law enforcement officer with the Department of Homeland Security and later as an associate at Nixon Peabody LLP.
Ms. Buckner earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctor from George Washington Law School.
